Animation Highlight - Borrowed Time

A few weeks ago the creatives behind the short film “Borrowed Time” visited the studio. They screened the film as well as engaged in a Q&A Afterwards.

Directors Lou Hamou-Lhadj, Andrew Coats and producer Amanda Deering Jones expressed that this short was not intended for kids. They wanted to push the envelope in making something a bit darker than expected. I appreciated them saying that they wanted to show that animation should be considered as a medium and not a genre.

What is cool about this production is that it’s apart of Pixar’s short program where employees are allowed to use Pixar’s resources to create a side project outside of work hours! Borrowed Time delivers the tug at the emotional strings that we are accustomed to with Pixar films and shorts HOWEVER unlike the norm, there is no "happily ever after" here.
